Joyce Strand has accepted a 2nd short term missionary assignment in Pass Christian, Mississippi (April 28th - May 5th) through First Church of God in Allegan, MI. Each team member is required to raise $250 to cover mission trip expenses. As of 04/26/06, she has raised $185.90

Joyce Strand completed a short term missionary assignment in Pass Christian, Mississippi in February through First Church of God in Allegan, MI. Here's some of what she had to say about her experience.
I couldn't believe that there was still so much devastation 6 months after Katrina hit. With the exception of a few rebuilt homes nothing seems better. Then you look around at the people who go to God's Katrina Kitchen and the clothes the people get from the Distribution Center and you can see the hope and even once in a while the smiles. These people are survivors. They believe with God's help they will rebuild.
I talked with several people and all of them thank God that they are still alive, they may not have homes but they are alive and that's all you need to rebuild. They were so grateful that we would take time out of our lives to come and help them. I heard so many thank you's and God Bless you's, and hugs galore.
They gave me the blessing, it was very humbling. I have always said "Thank you God for my being born in Allegan, Michigan. I have never had the desire to live anywhere else. After this mission trip, that's even more true. We were only inconvenienced 1 week with the one room (16 women) sleeping quarters, the porta potties, and outside showers. This was like a camp out, but can you imagine, these people have been living this way for 6 months, and some I'm sure don't have it that good.
This was my first ever mission trip, I never really thought about going on one until God called me to go, maybe He just wanted me to see how really wonderful my life is, one thing for sure I know I want to go again and help in whatever area I'm needed.
